sleddog tours near Funäsdalen |
|---|
| Still impressed from my first dog-tour in northern Norway
around newyear 1996/1997 I wanted to do some more tours
of this kind. A little bit later I read a nice ad on the web
by somebody who was looking for people joining him on dog
tours near
Funäsdalen, Sweden, see
map on the right. Sounded quite nice, and in
March 1998 I joined Armin for this adventure (is there a
better thing to do three weeks before defending the PhD
thesis?). The tours are organized by Jack Andersen of Camp Lo
in Åsarna, Sweden. The nice thing about these tours are that
they don't feel commercia,l with a friendly
atmosphere. This is mainly due to the fact that usually the
people show up every spring, equipment, cooking and getting
there is organised jointly, accompanied by preparation
and picture-watching meetings in Düsseldorf. Not
surprisingly, more tours in 1999, 2002 and 2003 should
follow. Additionally, Jack's camp in Funäsdalen made a good
base for some winter trips. The area itself is quite popular
in Sweden for skiing and famous Femund and Rogen are not
far away. Certainly a good place to be
"outdoors".
Interested in joining us some sunny day? Then do not hesitate to contact me.... The tour starts on sunday and ends on friday thereafter, resuming in the sauna in Funäsdalen with a tiny beer and some talking. Accomodation would be in tents, two people team up for cooking etc. Going with a team of five plus musher, all the members drive sleds on their own with five dogs. Dog food is carried on the sled for the complete tour.
